Theology Book Group
In September we’ll begin a theological consideration of Henry D. Thoreau’s classic American work, Walden. We’ll use a recent edition of Walden with an introduction by environmentalist Bill McKibben (Beacon Press, 2004, ISBN 0807014257).
McKibben writes of Thoreau, “He is the American incarnation of a line of crackpots and gurus from Buddha on. Jesus, St. Francis, Gandhi, and the holy men and women of every branch of the ethical religious tradition, share an outlook: Simplicity is good for the soul, for the right relation with God.”
Everyone is welcome to join us for a discussion of the theology and spirituality implicit in Thoreau’s natural observations. We’ll begin September 20th at 6:00 p.m. in the church library. For more information, visit the theology book group blog at:
