 Inquirer's Class May 11, 2008 Periodically deacons conduct an Inquirers Class for persons interested in joining Covenant Church. The class is held for eight Sundays during the education hour. This Sunday will be the last class. SECOND SUNDAY THEOLOGY BOOK GROUP May 11, 2008 In May and June, we’ll meet to discuss Gordon Kaufman’s, In the beginning…Creativity. Kaufman was raised a Mennonite and spent his career teaching at Harvard Divinity School. His theology currently wrestles with how to understand our evolutionary/ecological world from a Christian perspective. Kaufman’s other works include The Theological Imagination: Constructing the Concept of God, In Face of Mystery: A Constructive Theology, God-Mystery-Diversity: Christian Theology in a Pluralistic World, and Jesus and Creativity. Everyone is invited to join us May 11 as we continue our discussion of one of the most creative and influential theologians in recent memory. We’ll meet from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Our reading schedule is as follows: May 11 – Chapters One and Two (33-70) June 8 – Chapter Three and Epilogue (71-127) TENTS OF HOPE PICNIC (after the second service) May 18, 2008 HOPE IS GLOBAL: this is the slogan for TENTS OF HOPE (http:// www.tentsofhope.org) an organization helping to raise awareness of the atrocities happening in Darfur and working to end the genocide there. We are joining this global effort as another community seeking to creat conscience. We have a refugee tent and we are hosting a picnic in order to paint it and raise money. The tent will be taken to DC with other tents like it to be placed on the National Mall. We will plan a youth trip to take the tent to DC. Part of the picnic will be a fundraiser to cover supply costs and get us started on raising money for the trip. After going to DC, the tent will be sent to neighboring countries of Darfur to be used by the Darfur refugees there. Come hungry, bring money to donate for lunch, bake sale, etc, grab a paint brush! |
