Worship | Selected Sermons | Worship Order | Invitation "Covenant Baptist Church exists to worship . . . " This is the initial claim in our 1989 Mission Statement: worship is our primary reason for being. Worship comes from the old English: weorth -- worth/worthy, and scipe -- ascribe. We might say worship is our affirmation of what really matters, our expression about what has ultimate worth. Worship is the central act of faith and of this particular faith community. As such, we spend more time and energy and resources on worship than on any other activity. Three of our professional staff people -- Pastor, Minister of Music and Organist -- have their primary responsibilities in the area of worship. Covenant gathers weekly on Sunday morning for worship at our facility at 4949 Caroline Street in Houston. Until January of 2000, we worshipped on Sunday afternoon. Though unconventional, this had been the time of worship since our beginning; it was a concession to our choice of sharing a facility with another Christian congregation. Worship at Covenant involves the whole congregation but reflects the particular involvement of a variety of individuals and groups, and presents a number of opportunities for individuals to make contributions. |
