Youth Mentor Program

The Covenant mentoring program is an opportunity for youth and adults in the congregation to develop meaningful relationships beyond their family circles.  Since a youth may enter the program in the sixth grade and continue each year until graduation from high school, the mentoring experience is, potentially, a seven-year journey—an opportunity to know seven adults in the congregation as trusted friends.  It is also an opportunity for the youth, as he/she journeys toward maturity, to become more and more familiar with Covenant.

Many of the experiences shared with mentors and their youth are:

  • Share personally meaningful Bible verses or passages together.
  • Sit together in a Sunday worship service and discuss it afterward.
  • Plan a worship contribution together.
  • Participate in a service project together with other mentors and youth.
  • As the need arises, discuss possible questions such as what it means to the mentor to be a liberal, a Christian, a Baptist.  Other topics may be the roles of the deacons, council, and committee members.
  • Discussing the aspects of the mentor’s faith in her/ his daily activities and/ or work place, perhaps involving a visit to the workplace.
