This past weekend Covenant retreated to the piney woods of Camp Allen as we do every year at this time. It's always a special opportunity to get together with those we see every week and those we don't get to see as often.
Our theme this year was Self Compassion. We took time to look inward and assess ourselves as well as learn some very practical ways we can treat ourselves (and those around us) with more kindness and without judgement. Adults, youth, and children all participated.
One of the things that's great about these retreats for me is the opportunity to get to know fellow church members in more depth. I'm always impressed by how time spent outside of our church walls brings us together.
People who've been members of Covenant for decades understand that we define ourselves as a liberal ecumenical baptist congregation for a reason. We're not just a church, or a space. We're a group of people. As a community we are so much more than the sum of our parts. I am reminded of that especially in times when we are able to take a step back from a "regular" Sunday and experience each other in the piney woods :)
