Proclamation: 

Jeremiah is known as the weeping prophet. This Sunday's lectionary text is one of the reasons he has this reputation. We will join Jeremiah in asking if there can be a balm in Gilead - if the health of the people can be restored. Like Jeremiah, corporate and private grief are experiences we've each walked. As we journey, let's explore ways we can walk with each other and God. As we journey, let's explore ways we can create a balm of healing.

Music for both services this Sunday is "There is a Balm in Gilead", one of the many African-American spirituals arranged for choir by William L. Dawson. Dawson, who attended Tuskegee Institute in Alabama from the age of 13, was later on its faculty. He received honorary doctorates from a number of universities, and gained international recognition. A soloist will sing "There is a Balm in Gilead" at the first service, and with the choir at11:00.
